Supported Independent Living (SIL)

Living independently with the right support

Supported Independent Living, or SIL, is an arrangement where participants share a home with other people with disabilities and receive the support they need to live there. It is designed for people who need regular assistance with daily living but want to live in the community rather than in an institution.

Aamoon Care operates SIL properties across our service areas. Our approach prioritises participant choice, housemate compatibility, and support that is genuinely tailored to each individual.

What SIL involves

Living in a shared house, typically with two to four other participants, with support workers present for some or all of the day and night. Support covers personal care, meal preparation, household cleaning, medication administration, and social support.

The level of support varies between properties and between individuals. Your SIL funding is based on your individual needs. Your support plan within the house reflects what you specifically need.

How SIL works at Aamoon Care

We approach SIL as a home first. Residents have a say in how the household operates. Mealtimes, routines, social activities, and shared spaces are discussed and agreed on as a group where possible. Individual preferences are respected.

We pay close attention to compatibility when filling vacancies. Putting people together who have clashing routines or incompatible needs makes life miserable for everyone. We take matching seriously.

NDIS funding for SIL

SIL is funded under Core Supports. The amount depends on your individual support needs and is determined through the NDIS planning process. SIL funding covers support workers. It does not cover rent, food, or personal expenses.
